Parents, with your child, please review the below suggestions on how to prepare for the audition.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN AUDITION:
First of all thank you for auditioning for “Happily Ever After”! This is going to be so much fun! Please read the following information. It will help you prepare for the audition. You will need to perform a 1 minute monologue and one verse of a song. We have many people to see, so please stay within the time limit.
Audition Slate - what is it and how do I do it?
A Slate is your introduction. “Hi, my name is____________, and I am performing a scene from_________________ and a song from________. When you begin your audition please remember to slate. This is so important. This is a chance for us to see the real you before you become the character.
Audition Monologue - what is it and how do I prepare?
A monologue is a scene for 1 person. It is an uninterrupted speech. You can find monologue books in the school library or take a monologue from your favorite movie. You may also use a monologue from one of the examples that I have given you. Please memorize the monologue that you choose.
Audition Song: We would like to hear one verse of a song. You may sing anything you want. Remember, choosing a song that is not overused during your audition is a great way to stand out! If you have music without the vocals on a CD please bring it with you. It is easier to sing with the music.
“Act” the song. Don’t just stand there and sing the words. Take advantage of the time and act out the piece. It makes it more fun for you the performer, and it makes it a lot more fun for the audience. If you forget the words, don’t panic! Keep going no matter what, even if you have to “LaLa” for the rest of your song.
We want you to be wonderful so remember:
Keep a positive and professional attitude.
Practice down the hall or outside, so you don’t disturb someone who is auditioning.
Do not travel in and out of the audition room before it’s your turn.
Please have respect for each other!
Please have respect for yourself.
Audition without apologizing
Be poised.
Keep your volume up.
Introduce yourself with good diction-loud and clear.
SMILE!!
Do not comment on your performance or anyone else’s.
Have fun and use this as a learning experience.
With Smiles,
Whitney Christopher King
